Williams, Notre Dame Remain Elite as Regular Season Nears End

Kyren Williams

Since their week five loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have made a statement in the College Football world. The Irish have went on an impressive six-win run, recording victories over formidable opponents and doing so in style. The Irish's most recent victory came on Saturday where Notre Dame shut out the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 55-0.

In the Irish's last three games, the Notre Dame defense has managed to hold their opponents to just 9 points in 180 minutes of play while scoring 117 points themselves. That's right. Over the last three games, Notre Dame has been outscoring their opponents 13-1. The Fighting Irish are on an absolute run at the moment and this offensive explosion coupled with lockdown defense could not be coming at a better time.

Continuing to be a massive part of the Notre Dame offense is running back Kyren Williams. Williams' hot streak is has continued to progress and the running back, one that the Irish will likely be missing next season due to high probability of being an NFL draft pick, has found his true potential this season. This year Williams has rushed for 872 yards on 174 carries and has recorded ten touchdowns in the process. Through the air Williams has also been effective, catching 36 passes for 308 yards with three touchdowns. The running back is currently second on the team in overall receptions.

Undoubtably, this makes Williams a center piece to the Irish's offensive output. When number 23 is able to move the chains and find the end zone while Notre Dame's talented receiving core plays the way they have in these past few games, Notre Dame is an unstoppable power house. Furthermore, if the Irish defense can continue this impressive stand allowing hardly any points to go up on the board, Notre Dame could find themselves once again in the College Football Playoffs. Five 10-win seasons in a row should feel pretty good for head coach Brian Kelly. Now it's time to see if anything is left in the tank to push this team to another playoff run.
